The Politics of Islamophobia – The Turkish Coup and other Key Events | The Call Out

Source: The Call Out

In this episode of The Call Out we take a critical look at the failed Turkish Coup and particularly the response of Western nations. We challenge the rhetoric around the primacy of democracy when a ‘Muslim’ leader is involved and highlight the apparent hypocrisy of western nations in this regard.

The example of the Turkish Coup has similarities with what occurs in respect to the racism faced by Muslims every day, albeit writ on the world stage, and we tie in the local events of the last week vis-a-vis Pauline Hansen and Sonja Krueger to demonstrate this.

In that discussion we touch on the debate that ensued this week as to how the community should respond to racism and put forward our case for challenging all instances of racism with strength and dignity.
