A delegation representing 21 Australian community organisations visited the Melbourne Consul-General for Turkey, Mr Mehmet Kucuksakalli, to hand deliver a letter addressed to Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The letter signatories are a representation of the large and diverse Muslim communities in Australia who have felt the need to express solidarity with Turkey, particularly after last Tuesday’s terrorist attack in Instanbul.
The letter and the delegation expressed solidarity with the people, leadership and the nation of Turkey. They offered their condolences to the Consul General and expressed that they genuinely saw a unique model of moral leadership in the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and its current government. A model of leadership that offered inspiration and hope to millions in Turkey and across the globe.
The delegation specifically highlighted the courageous stance for justice in Syria and Egypt as examples of this moral based leadership.
The spokesman for the delegation, Mr Almir Colan, said “At a personal level, the president’s genuine care for the vulnerable has touched many so deeply.” He added, “We pray for Turkey, its people and its leadership to continue to prosper, remain resolve against terrorism and grow in its role as a global role model.”

On behalf of many organisations and individuals, we wish to express our solidarity with the people, leadership and the nation of Turkey. The signatories are a representation of the large and diverse Muslim communities in Australia who have felt the need to express this feeling of solidarity to the people of Turkey and its leadership.
We are deeply saddened by the terrorist attacks in Istanbul on Tuesday 12th January 2016 and pray for the victims and their families. We trust the terrorist will not succeed in undermining peace and order in your country and under your leadership your peoples resolve will only strengthen and overcome all such adversities.
We live in very challenging times and the Muslim world are in ever need of a steadfast moral leadership. We, the undersigned, genuinely see this in your presidency. Your leadership has brought forth a vision and courage to lead the Turkish peoples and has given inspiration, confidence, hope and opportunities to millions of Muslim all over the world. You also succeeded in offering a model of moral leadership that has inspired many in the world, Muslim or otherwise.
On the international front, your courageous stance and support for justice and the peoples of the Middle East, in particular Syria and Egypt are examples of your moral based leadership. At a personal level, your genuine care for the vulnerable has touched many so deeply.
We pray for Turkey, its people and its leadership to continue successfully on the path of success and to continue to be an inspiration for many around the world.
We look forward to working with you in standing with Turkey and extend our hand of friendship throughout 2016.
