SECONDARY students are preparing for an exciting new chapter of their lives thanks to a careers expo in Dallas.
Ilim College careers counsellor Almir Colan and ICMG Youth University Committee president Yusuf Ozen have come up with a series of seminars to help young people find the right pathway after school.
Co-organiser Muhammed Ali Altiparmak said the free event included presentations and opportunities for students and parents to network with TAFE and university- goers as well as graduates who had scored work in their chosen career.
He said the expo gave students an understanding of the differences between school and university and the opportunity to find what they wanted to study and how to get there.
“We’re all current university students and we’ve graduated from schools in the last four years,” he said.
“We had very little knowledge about how university life was going to be. We had very little career advice. We decided to actually put on an event so all high school students have a better understanding and much more confidence when making decisions about their careers.”
The next seminar, following last week’s session on arts and commerce, has a science and engineering focus.
It’s on Thursday from 6.30pm at the Ilim College assembly hall, Inverloch Cres, Dallas. The final session is on 6.30pm, September 3.
