The ICV’s response to reports in today’s paper.
11 August 2014.
The Islamic Council of Victoria notes the reports today in The Australian depicting events in Iraq.
The Islamic Council of Victoria unequivocally condemns and deplores the actions portrayed in those reports without reservation.
Islam requires the humane treatment of all people including prisoners of war. The actions portrayed cannot be justified in any way whatsoever and the perpetrators should be condemned in the strongest terms.
Mr Ghaith Krayem, Secretary of the Islamic Council of Victoria, stated “These atrocities have no place in our religion. “
Our prayers and thoughts go out to all the innocent people in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere, who continue to suffer under such tyranny and oppression and we hope the combined humanity of the world will stand up to this and bring an end to such actions.
Mr Krayem further stated “As Muslims we are required to stand against injustice and tyranny regardless of who is the perpetrator. Individuals such as this cannot continue to hijack our religion in the name of their obscenities. Just as we support the people of Gaza in their time of need so do we stand against these atrocities and call on all people, Muslim and non-Muslim, to do likewise.”
